Gaining Credibility, Trust, and Higher Profits On Your Web Site through a Blog
You’ve heard of “blogs”. You may know what they are, have read them, or have one of your own. But what are they really for and how can they boost your business? Credibility…trust…customer loyalty…increased site visitors…blogs do all these things for businesses. The bottom line is that blogs boost profits.
But only if done correctly…

Lessons Learned in Economics
I’ve learned a lot more about practical economics since I left college. I’ve noticed that certain economies are entirely supported by the most unusual businesses. East Carbon, the southern Utah town where my in-laws live, is entirely supported by speeding tickets. That’s the only thing, as far as I can tell, that produces money down there. Wilmington Delaware is kept afloat by sending me credit card offers. Provo Utah, my current residence, is financed primarily through dollar movie theaters and 24-hour restaurants.
And Nigeria’s economy is apparently kept afloat by email scams.

Falling in Love with Your MarketingAugust 22, 2006 2:20 pm by Jarom Adair
…Where and When Not To.
When approaching any kind of a marketing decision, always ask yourself “WWMGD?” This, of course, stands for “What Would a Marketing Guru Do?” There are several basic things you can do to approach your marketing activities the same way a marketing pro would. These concepts and approaches are not complex, but they will save you time, money, and a lot of frustration.
And, as with all good marketing, this story is all about LOVE. That’s right–marketing and love…

The Key to Successful Advertising (or How to Think Like a Professional Marketer Part 2)
Yeeeeeeeeeeha!! You’ve decided how and where to advertise and the advertising worked better than you expected! Customers are coming in and business is humming. You’ve got your marketing strategy set for life, right?
Of course after an intro like that the answer is going to be WRONG! No surprise there, but what exactly about it is wrong? After all, advertising is working…customers are responding, sales are up, and life is good. Why would somebody who thinks like a professional marketer not be satisfied with that?

Humor: Taking the DiveAugust 7, 2006 9:28 am by Jarom Adair
I went sky diving with my sister Cami for her 18th birthday. That was a unique experience. What better way to say “You’re special to me” than to jump out of a plane together at 12,000 feet? Perhaps my dad’s way was better: simply finance the jumping of two people out of a plane together at 12,000 feet while staying safely on the ground taking pictures.

Humor: Baseball Doesn’t Get More Exciting than This…August 2, 2006 11:46 am by Jarom Adair
To tell you the truth, I’ve never found baseball interesting. I won’t go into the details of why this is, but there is only one baseball game in my personal history that could be described as exciting (”exciting” defined as “a game during which Jarom didn’t have to gnaw off one of his fingers to stay awake through”).
Although, in this particular game, I did almost loose my leg. The story goes as follows:

How to Think Like a Professional Marketer
“I can’t hardly wrap my mind around how big a market is.” said Shawn Nelson, CEO of LoveSac at a lecture I attended. Shawn sells what are, in essence, bean bag chairs. He’s opened several stores around Utah, has spawned several competitors, and still hasn’t saturated his market. I thought he would have gone out of business by now. I figured he’d sell a couple hundred LoveSacs, fulfill all the pent up demand from the 80’s, and then there’d be nobody left to sell to. Yet he consistently sells hundreds of these things every month.
There’s enough people out there for any decent product or service to be successful. The trick is to know how to market to those people. If you knew what professional marketers know, your chances of having a highly successful marketing campaign would increase dramatically. The money you spent reaching out to your target market would come back to you with dividends. You’d have fun doing it too.

I’ve never lost a potential client to a competitor. Once I’ve placed a bid on a project I’ve always won it. It’s not because my prices are lower or I’m any better looking than the next guy. Humor: The Quest for a Mowed Lawn ContinuesJuly 24, 2006 10:08 pm by Jarom Adair
If you’ve read the “How to Not Make Money Mowing Lawns” article, you’d know that I’ve had some difficulty getting the neighbor boy to mow our lawn. Since I published that article, Johnny has gone AWOL. If you haven’t read the article, the short version is that the neighbor kid offered to mow our lawn for us and then proceeded to break every customer service and marketing principle known to man. I expected that of a 14 year old, but I was hoping he’d stick with it long enough to learn how to run a lawn mowing business the right way. I let him make a wreck of my lawn repeatedly so I could help him understand what his customers expected of him. As it is, he hasn’t been seen in over month and our grass is about 4 inches tall.
Or was about 4 inches tall…
